In Sri Lanka’s High Court, out of 24 suspects, 15 were convicted guilty – 14 for all charges which included murder and terrorism and one on some partial charges – regarding their participation in the Easter Sunday 2019 bombings that took place in churches and hotels and claimed the lives of 279 people. Not only did the Sri Lankan legal framework and its Supreme Court convict those involved directly in the attacks, but they have also held responsible the country’s top government officials, including the then President Maithripala Sirisena, for neglecting the prior intelligence warnings received.
